Edit text in a scanned document

A scan is a picture of a page, so its words cannot be retyped the way a PDF’s can. Select the text, type the correction, and it is re-set in the same typeface and weight on the same paper tone — no white box, no visible rectangle where the old word was.

Why can I not just edit my scan like a PDF?

A PDF usually stores real text. A scan stores a photograph of text, so there is nothing to select. If you still have the original document, editing it there is always the better option.

Does it keep the paper texture?

Yes. Paper tone, print grain and any background pattern are continued under the new wording, which is what stops the edit reading as a sticker.

Is it legal to edit a document image?

Correcting your own documents, mockups and drafts is fine. Altering identity documents, financial records or official certificates to mislead someone is not, and our terms prohibit it.
